![]() Indeed, I've actually enjoyed the game a lot more by playing on a lower resolution than either 1080p or 4K. There are certain tricks you can pull to make it less smeary and get it back to the version of the game you've probably been carrying around in your head all these years like I have. The Remastered version, on the other hand, has better default controls you can remap on the fly, the music is the exquisite gosh-darned original, and it has the blessed ability to speed everything up by three times the game's normal speed a la Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age's fast forward button (not to mention the option to turn off random encounters) to help get rid of the grind. The soundtrack is a synthesised abomination compared to the original, and everything, from the character models to the pre-rendered backgrounds, to the horribly blown-up menu text, just doesn't look like it's been made for modern gaming monitor. There are no menu settings outside those you can select in the initial launcher, so if you want to change anything or remap any of its obscure keyboard controls you have to quit out and start it up again. Having said that, trying to play said 2013 version again in 2019 is just. This is how I remember the game looking, not buffed and blended to within an inch of its life so it doesn't even look real any more. Those smeary textures are replaced by chunky jaggies again, and in my eyes this gives it a lot more character, texture and personality. This is the 2013 version in Original Graphic Mode. It's times like this when I wish the Remastered version had the 2013's 'Original Graphic Mode' option, because that's able to turn this monstrosity above into this mildly better monstrosity below. Sweet Shiva, what have they done to the overworld map? The worst culprit, though, is the overworld map. Instead, they feel like they've been air-lifted in from a completely different game, robbing me from taking any satisfaction in their glorious new 'I can actually see your individual expressions now' look whatsoever. While each character is certainly a lot easier on the eyes than the 2013 release, they just don't feel as grounded in their individual environments any more compared to their blurry, misshapen classmates. ![]() This is sort of my biggest complaint about the remaster. Unlike class beauty Sheila on the right, poor Judith had her faced completely erased when she failed the last field exam. If you think that's bad, spare a thought for the poor SeeD students trapped forever in their original mutated pixel form over in the foreground of this pre-rendered background. The original mountains may have pixels the size of doorstops, but I'll be damned if they're considered 'worse' than the rough, almost unfinished-looking outlines they've been given in the remaster. As much as I love the clean, detailed lines of both Squall and his insectoid foes in the Remastered version here, I'm less enamoured with whatever the hell's going on with those weirdly sliced mountains in the background. ![]() The 2013 PC version is by no means any great masterpiece, but I don't know. The 2013 PC Final Fantasy VIII release.versus FFVIII Remastered. Just look at these two battle scenes to see what I mean. Edges have been softened, colour gradients blended, and some chunky, jagged background textures brought into sharp, unforgiving focus. In a nutshell, it seems like the developers have taken a giant vat of Vaseline to Final Fantasy VIII and given it a good old smear. Those pre-rendered backgrounds behind him, though? Those are a different story. You only need to look at the transformation between Squall's original, puffy-cheeked appearance and his new, pretty anime body above to see how much they've improved. I understand now why Square Enix largely focused on the game's battle scenes and FMV sequences in that initial Remastered trailer, because holy moly it's a bit of a shock when you actually clap eyes on the rest of it. What's wrong with those SeeD students? And those backgrounds? And oh sweet Guardian Forces WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO SQUALL'S FACE? Good thing, then, that today marks the release of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, a spruced-up, PC-friendly version that finally does it justi- wait. The music isn't right, the controls are fiddly it's aged horribly. The 2013 PC release is, let's face it, a bit of a fudge. It is, however, one of the more trying Final Fantasy games to get running properly on PC. ![]() It's getting on a bit (20 years, in fact) but its tale of time-travelling witches, lovestruck teens, cannonball dogs and bonkers floating military schools is still, for me, one of the best things to come out of this never-ending series. Whenever someone asks me what my favourite Final Fantasy game is, the answer is always Final Fantasy VIII.

![]() You also never quite know what you’ll end up with as hands are random and so you could have a dud as much as you might have a real winner. A shame, considering how creative and dynamic the whole UI actually is.īut I loved the way in which you could mix up your attacks and the way you approach situations. Sometimes battles also take far too long and surprisingly, this is an issue with the game early on which, undoubtedly, slows the pacing of the whole game and can make some of the action a bit of a slog. The combat system is really unique, then, blending a platformer with the likes of Gwent or Hearthstone, but it can also be a source of frustration as enemies often huddle up on you and the numbers get more and more overwhelming as you progress, really limiting your window and opportunity to build up your crystals. The ammunition doesn’t actually hurt your enemies. You see, the slingshot you’re equipped with is only useful for smashing pots or catching crystals on enemy bodies. Some have higher values than others, of course, meaning you’ll need to be careful how to play your hand and be aware of what you do each turn.įor instance, if you don’t summon some form of weapon with your hand, then you’ll have to wait to fill up your dice again and mostly just dodge until you do. ![]() Others are a lot more powerful, though, like summoning a giant hand that can slap at enemies and ones that turn Dicey into a mini bomb. Some are pretty simple like giving you a health increase and even reducing the value of a card meaning you can play more. So you’ve got Queens Guards and minions chasing you as you progress, but thanks to the power of the Dice, you can accumulate crystals, and roll the Dice in order to play certain action cards. The trouble is, you’ve come into possession of a dice which has been outlawed by the Queen and one hasn’t been seen in the kingdom for…well a very long time. Solo characters trying to sell you potions and enchantments while they bicker and argue with another aspect of their personality, all while gradually trying to fight off knights in shining armor and flying treasure bots that really aren’t friendly.Īs Even, you are in search of your sister Odd, and have to travel between the realms in order to find her. ![]() You’re not always altogether sure what’s happening but as you unpick more and more of the story, you find yourself becoming more and more invested in its quirky charms. The world around feels atmospheric and enchanting. Lost In Random, then, is one of the bravest, most experimental games this year and it sticks its landing extremely well. Yet one thing becomes abundantly clear early on is that this really does feel fresh, different and stands very much apart as its own thing. And undoubtedly there’s a few nods and winks to Slay the Spire and the LEGO games. There’s a dash of Nightmare Before Christmas in here, with a large helping of Alice in Wonderland.

One of the best ways to understand Hermes is to look at the story of his birth. ![]() Hermes was the Greek god associated with the planet Mercury. He was attributed with the invention of archery (and his sister Artemis), and he is usually depicted with a golden bow and silver arrows. If you wanted your child to grow big and strong, Apollo was the god you would pray to. He was also viewed as the protector of children who could help them with their health and education. He was seen as the ideal form of an athletic young man. It’s no surprise he was connected with the sun, he was the golden boy of the gods (literally and metaphorically). Initially, the Greek god of the sun was ‘Helios’ but, later, ‘ Apollo’ became the sun god. It’s fairly easy to recognize the Roman gods who were associated with each planet (because most use the same name for both the planet and the god), but do you know who the OGs (original gods) from ancient Greece are? ![]() Their personalities and their dominions (be it the winds, the seas, war, healing, poetry and so on) were also practically copied and pasted over. ‘Apollo’, for example, is the same name in both Greek and Roman mythology. The Romans more or less copied the Greek gods into their own mythology but changed the names. The Greeks are really the ones who deserve the credit for creating these gods (and their planetary associations). We’ve also been landed with the Roman names for the majority of the planets in our solar system too. Similarly, ‘August’ is named in honor of Augustus Caesar (also known as Octavian) who became emperor of ancient Rome, after the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BCE. ‘July’, for example, is a shortening of ‘Julius’, as in Julius Caesar. Many of the planets, as with many of the months, take their name from Roman gods and leaders. ![]() I promised you an easy way to download all of the presets I’ve spoken about in the podcast and here it is! Get your free Adobe Audition presets. The compression is simply a light 2:1 setting above -20dB but it makes a difference to raw voice sessions. It’s not too heavy and this is important especially if you’re going to compress the voice again when you drop it into the multitrack. Audition is also an industry-leading tool for cleaning up recordings and audio restoration. There is a really cool multiband compressor integrated from iZotope into Adobe Audition CC but I find the native Audition ‘Dynamics Processing’ perfectly fine for compressing voice over sessions. Free adobe audition cc 2016 download software at UpdateStar - Adobe Audition CC is a powerful application for recording and mixing audio for video, podcasting, and sound effect design. Listen to some examples in the podcast audio. Echo is great for when you end a radio jingle or DJ drop so that the radio station name or host name echoes away into a music track. I have created my own custom echo that works great when you mix vocals with music and imaging sfx. ![]() There are many echo presets in Adobe Audition some of which are really decent and others are not designed to be used on vocals. A little wetness on the reverb adds a great sound to audio production although other radio imaging producers may argue that reverb is old fashioned and that you should knock out low and high frequencies on a voice over so that it cuts through anything – just like those fancy men’s razors you see advertised on TV! 2. This is not something I would apply in the waveform view of Adobe Audition rather the multitrack as it involves a number of different effects (including Dynamics Processing, Graphic Equalizer and Studio Reverb). Some voice artists don’t need this process but in many cases sessions come in dry and need a little brightening up. I push up the high range frequencies to give a little sparkle to the voice. I add some of my own custom EQ to voice overs, like my own, and other voice over artists that perform work for Music Radio Creative. 23) Yuri on Ice, “History Maker,” Dean Fujioka “gravityWall” wouldn’t be out of place at the Warped Tour. This emo rager builds like an action sequence, exploding during the chorus and recharging during the verses. Full of blistering stylized action, it’s a series in need of a great theme, which is why SawanoHiroyuki:Tielle & Gemie’s “gravityWall” is so fitting. ![]() Characters from anime, manga, and video games have somehow entered the real world, leaving it up to a group of high schoolers to do battle with their beloved icons. Re:Creators has an ingenious premise that tugs the imagination of any real anime fan. But even before the explosions and death-defying races got your heart pumping, there was the theme song, a perfect encapsulation of the show’s ability to make you laugh while your heart was in your throat.Ģ4) Re:Creators, “gravityWall,” SawanoHiroyuki: Tielle & Gemie Released in 1967, Speed Racer is a rock-and-roll racing/spy thriller about brilliant drivers controlling supercharged cars full of weapons. Speed Racer, aka Mach GoGoGo, is a series that lives vividly in the hearts and minds of millions of anime fans across generations, and it’s in no small part to this incredible song. How’d we do? The best anime theme songs ever, ranked 25) Speed Racer, “Speed Racer,” Michiru Oshima So here are our top picks for the greatest anime themes ever. But it’s the show’s final opening theme that really synthesizes the show’s themes of rebirth and transformation with a powerful opening credits sequence that still gives us chills over a decade later. For instance, all of the songs from the Full Metal Alchemist soundtrack have become cultural icons, including Porno Graffitti’s “Melissa,” the first song to open the series. We also considered how well a song and its accompanying animated sequence fit together, and how well the song represents the themes of the story. Some of our favorites are ending themes that blew our minds. In creating it, we decided to include more than just anime opening themes, because so many landmark moments in Japanese animation have included music, from Hayao Miyazaki‘s collaboration with Joe Hisaishi, to the enduring works of renowned female composers like Yoko Kanno and Maaya Sakamoto. We love anime, but some of us love J-pop even more, so this list was a no-brainer. Through the years there are certain opening and ending themes from TV series and songs from feature-length anime that have won iconic status in Japanese culture and in many cases, international culture. But trying to pick the best anime theme songs? That’s much easier. Much like trying to pick the best movie ever made, there are too many masterpieces to choose from. HELEN pulls away, tries to open the suitcase again ANNIE points her hand overhead again. Then HELEN returns to the suitcase, tries to open it, cannot. She puts her hands on HELEN’S arms, but HELEN at once pulls away, and they confront each other with a distance between. ANNIE’S gaze is grave, unpitying, very attentive. She moves her hand on to ANNIE’S forearm, and dress and ANNIE brings her face within reach of HELEN’S fingers, which travel over it, quite without timidity, until they encounter and push aside the smoked glasses. HELEN at once grasps it, and commences to explore it, like reading a face. ANNIE puts forth her hand, and touches HELEN’S. Then she drops the suitcase on the porch with intentional heaviness, HELEN starts with the jar, and comes to grope over it. Instead, think of it as the themes that best represent the wrestler. These aren’t really Johnston’s best “songs” because some of his joints bang harder than others. Either way, his music complemented the wrestler like peanut better and jelly. Johnston’s themes were dope because he added to the character or brought things out of them. What makes it particularly putrid, according to Johnston, is the fact the music and characters don’t really connect. In no uncertain terms, Johnston said it’s rather doo doo. Jim Johnston said it all with his chest, didn’t he? For those who missed it earlier this week, WWE’s former music impresario said quite a bit as it relates to the current state of WWE music. |
